March 27th Rally For Voting Against Casella Landfill Expansion in Southbridge
Join residents of Southbridge, Sturbridge, and Charlton for a rally to support the Board of Health and show them that the community is concerned about the threat to public health. Southbridge Landfill is about to become the largest raw garbage landfill in Massachusetts! Casella Waste Systems plans to increase the permitted raw garbage to over 400,000 tons of municipal solid waste - raw garbage - there each year including Boston and Springfield’s trash.
Residents of Sturbridge, Southbridge and Charlton have been complaining for years about the odors from the Southbridge Landfill. If these problems intensify, all the neighborhood homes within 3-4 miles of the dump could be devalued.
Where: Casaubon Senior Center, Southbridge
When: 6PM on Thursday, March 27th

Looks like the town manager John F. Healey is pushing Casella hard for a quick cash hit to make up the budget deficit that he cant balance… the telegram reported it here: http://www.telegram.com/article/20080329/NEWS/803290346/1101 . I hope the Southbridge BOH stands up for the well being of southbridge and the surrounding communities and kills this proposal!
